Becoming the Next Premier Learning Organization...

Flagship Programs at Indian Trails Middle School

Editorial in the Daytona Beach News Journal. Written by Andy Dance.

At the core of Flagler Schools’ success you will find two critical characteristics: a culture of innovation and the drive for personalized student success. The School Board recently revised the district’s vision, emphasizing innovation and personalized student success. Everything we do is inspired by this vision: As a courageous, innovative leader in education, Flagler County Public Schools will be the nation’s premier learning organization where all students graduate as socially responsible citizens with the skills necessary to reach their maximum potential.

We are establishing a culture of innovation and high expectations for our students and employees. Schools have to make the transition from being just educational providers to being in the business of providing exceptional student experiences. How do we engage students, personalize their education, make them excited about school, give them reasons to attend every day. To apply this vision, each school in the district has programs aligning college and career readiness from elementary to high school. These programs support targeted market industries, as outlined by the Flagler County Department of Economic Opportunity. Indian Trail Middle School has designed four specific flagship programs: Sports Leadership Academy, Engineering and Applied Robotics, Outdoor Sciences, and Business and Computer Science Education.
